Requiring approval from architects and planners within the City of Vincent Design Advisory Committee, Reside Apartments was awarded the status “Design Excellence”. This rewarded the development with bonus plot ratio density, affording extra saleable area and profitability to the development.

The design is a continuation of the existing townhouse streetscape. This typology is utilised to minimise the perceived impact of the higher apartment density through pairing vertically.

Aesthetically the palette is reserved and minimal with small flourishes at key locations such as the entry. Within the development’s inner courtyard the design becomes less restrained and more playful.

The form itself orientates its roofs to the northern sun as an expression of its ESD principles. The glazing within the party fire walls was developed with Arup as an engineered solution in order to allow passive solar and stack ventilation in an otherwise East/West orientation.

A connection to the parkland opposite was achieved through large terraces with integrated planters. These planters also serve as a privacy device by directing tenants’ views over and past ground floor apartments. The quality of the design was reflected in the neighbour support during the planning process and quick realisation of presales by the developer.
