James House - Margaret River (Under Construction)

Affordable (sub $400 000) sustainable house project. Super-insulated lightweight construction, renewable materials, north sun angle skilllion design, individual room cross ventilation and thermal mass floors

Environmental Sustainable Design (ESD) forms a core part of our process for all projects. ESD doesn’t need to be a niche and an expensive luxury. Elements such as passive solar, thermal protection and efficiency can be achieved simply and affordable through smart design. For the right projects we also have the experience to deliver high end ESD solutions. These can draw upon our knowledge of the latest products and technologies and can be developed with our modeling software. Some ESD considerations of our designs include:

•Northern aspect, winter solar gain

•Minimal east-west glazing

•Movable shading and operable louvered roofs

•Cross ventilation

•Heat recovery ventilation

•Heat pump hot water systems

•Super-insulation

•Maximised daylighting

•Passive “stack” ventilation

•High ceilings

•Ceiling fans (reversible)

•Reverse veneer construction

•High thermal mass floors, walls and phase changing materials (PCM’s)

•Photovoltaics

•Smart metering

•Existing tree retention

•Waterwise planting

•Waterwise fixtures

•Rainwater harvesting

•Deciduous planting

•Green roofs and vertical planting

•Vegetated Swales and water capture

•Low hard landscaping and maximised permeable paving

•Adaptive reuse and recycling

•Low car dependency, ride sharing, electric car bays, cycle parking

•Locally sourced materials
